Pay and Climb

You can use the fantastic facilities at Evolution today – it does not matter if you are a total novice or a seasoned gnarly climber – there’s something for everyone.

Are you looking for something new & exciting, something physical, exhilarating, challenging and FUN? Something everyone can join in with? If Ten Pin Bowling and the Cinema have lost their appeal – there is another option – Come Climbing.

Come along anytime during normal Opening hours and use our Bouldering area for an unlimited time (Prices). This area is suitable for anyone over the age of 6 years old, no experience is necessary but adult supervision is required for all children under age 16. The Bouldering area is very extensive, offering climbs up to 5.5 metres high. The area has a thick one piece crash mat to cushion any falls. Participants need to bring a clean pair of training shoes or rock boots can be hired from us.

Evolution is open late on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and all day at weekends. During school holidays we open early so the kids can really
wear themselves out.

Every Sunday from 10am - 12pm we run our children's bouldering academy. You are welcome to use the centre during this time however it is usually quite busy.

Evolution Climbing has a very simple pricing structure with no hidden extras; anyone over the age of 6 can come and climb. Just pay the entry fee and climb, no booking is necessary – unless you require instruction! If you are going to be using the centre more than 4 times a year then it’s worth becoming a member. Your entry fee covers all areas in the centre. No experience of climbing is required to use the Bouldering areas but children must have an adult with them to supervise. To use the Roped areas you must be a competent climber or with an instructor. Instructors are easy to book – just phone us.

The Climbing Area Explained

The climbing area replicates real rock with sculpted hand and foot holds exactly the same as you would expect to find outdoors, with cracks, slabs, and overhangs. These sculpted holds never change and are the nearest indoor climbers have to climbing on real rock.

Evolution Indoor Climbing also has Bolt On Holds these are coloured and can be used for setting individual climbing routes (problems). We set routes of all standards weekly so there is always something new to do in the centre. All problems stay up for six weeks before being reset to give everyone the chance to work them out.

Children and novices using the centre for the first few times will need to use all the holds available to succeed but after a few visits or some tuition will find they need to use fewer and fewer until the routes will be conquered using only the single coloured holds.

The Routes

Routes are set by members of the Evolution Climbers Group and usually have three different ways to climb them.

Easiest Harder Hardest

One colour holds for hands only, any holds for feet, Bolt On's or Natural Features. Known as ANY FEET

One colour holds for hands only, only natural features for feet. Known as FEATURES FOR FEET

One colour holds for hands and feet only. Known as FEET FOLLOW HANDS

Or you can just use the sculpted features. If 5.5 Metres seems a bit high to you, it can be if you are a parent watching your child, the wall can also be used for Traversing (going sideways). With over 50 metres of uninterrupted climbing available even the fittest person can train without ever going more than a few inches from the ground.

Evolution Climbing has a small roped climbing area that’s available to over 18's who are experienced climbers. Children of any age can climb with a competent adult climber or with one of our instructors. A declaration needs to be completed by all adults wishing to use this area.

We have 18 roped climbs all equipped with top ropes and routes set as described above. Climbers wishing to use this area will need to supply their own harnesses and belay plates or hire them from us - and those wishing to lead will need to bring a suitable dynamic rope & quickdraws.
